For this cinematic meditation on grief, the visual approach was anchored in cinematographer Diara Sow’s finely controlled contrast, which we further refined together in the grade. Director Aïda Captijn aimed to preserve a naturalistic feel while introducing a mythical, slightly unsettling edge. We balanced pastel blues and greens with warm yellows to create an organic, grounded base. This was contrasted with deep blacks and bursts of orange, saturated blue, and cyan, marking the boundary between the protagonist’s two worlds: one grounded in reality, the other slipping toward the surreal.
